SUMBAR - A RIVER VALLEY IN THE EMBRACE OF THE MOUNTAINS
You can get to the valley of the Sumbar river by mountain roads lying along the plateau, through the villages of Nukhur or Sayvan, and go down to the river valley along a serpentine. But it is better - at least once to drive along the highway through the fantastic vestibule of the valley - the "mountains of the moon". This is one of the striking local attractions of the southwestern Kopetdag.

This Silk Road caravanserai stands on the ancient route between Amul and Khorezm and dates to around the 12th century (give or take a couple of hundred years), just off the main road 170km to the north of Turkmenabat.

We just completed a tour of Turkmenistan organized by Ak Yol Travel, and it was an amazing, unforgettable experience! Our tour included some of the country's most interesting and iconic sights: the ancient historical site of Kunya Urgench (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the spectacular Darvaza Gas Crater, and the stunning, unique architecture of the white-marbled capital city of Ashgabat. Each location was amazing in its own way. A special mention must go to our guide, Guych, who was absolutely excellent and spoke very good English, which greatly enhanced our experience and understanding of the country's history and culture. An Unforgettable Journey Highlighting Turkmenistan's Culture and Wonders! Our tour with Ak Yol Travel was an absolutely fantastic and unforgettable experience. From the moment we started, the trip was flawlessly organized, providing us with a deep dive into the unique wonders of Turkmenistan. We saw the magnificent Kunya Urgench UNESCO site, witnessed the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Darvaza Gas Crater (The Gate to Hell), and explored the stunning, white-marbled city of Ashgabat. A major highlight was the visit to the Carpet Museum, where we saw many different kinds of amazing Turkmen carpets, which are a true testament to the country's rich artistry and heritage. The success of the tour was thanks to the incredible team. Our guide, Sohbet, was knowledgeable and spoke excellent English, enriching every site visit with historical context.
